On their way to Savannah, Georgia yesterday, Transient was in a head on collision when an SUV flew over the medium and landed on them. Krysta had to be airlifted to the hospital. We are all relieved that they are alive and doing ok. Krysta had to have surgery on her wrist and her hip put back into place. The van has been totaled and we need help getting them home safely and also help pay for some medical bills.

- in August our bud butties in TRANSIENT will be stopping through for a couple of shows. also appearing will be CASTEVET, ARTIFICIAL BRAIN, and more to be announced. later that month we'll be playing with the blindingly awesome SETE STAR SEPT. shaping up to be pretty swick.

- in the meantime, we'll be working on more new recordings. four songs are rough-mixed, and we'll be going in to record drums this weekend for about six more tunes. still have 2 others that will get done at another time, but we have two brand new lil' blasters ready to be put to tape;

THE INVALIDIST: total grind, with blasting almost all the way through. hit us after playing with THE KILL, NOISEAR, and DOUBLE OVER. especially NOISEAR. lyrics loosely inspired by Molly Parker in Kissed. title is a reference to the Cult of Invalidism, which was the accidental basis for the villains in Pascal Laugier's Martyrs.

GARBAGE ISLAND TECTONIC SHIFT: 1/2 grindy metallic hardcore. 1/2 Gravity Records esque screamo. the one you'll hate which makes me love it all the more. lyrics are about achieving spiritual and emotional clarity through group masturbation in a junkyard.

Seth Putnam of ANAL CUNT is dead.

Speaking personally, AxCx is crucial to me... one of the bands that made me wanna do this bullshit that i do. saw them in 2001 in a little bar in a Long Island suburb. to this day its probably my favorite show ever. Heavy, psychotic, hatefully fun, funnily hateful, and brutal in the truest sense of the word. Morbid Florist is one of the first pieces of underground music i ever owned, and i haven't looked back since hearing it at age fourteen. all the Earache records, the Early Years, Defenders of the Hate, even the mockingly shmaltzy Picnic of Love still find their way into regular rotations around here.

last time i saw them was about 5 years ago in Brooklyn, about a year after Seth had his overdose. he could barely stand-up, fell into the drum kit after commandeering Josh's guitar, and still sounded more viscous on the mic than any transcendental black glitter core pantywaist could ever dream of being.

- It was a year ago today that myself, Billy, and Lee huddled in our practice space with Tony Biscuits to record guitars and vocals over the drum tracks Joe did in Seattle on our west coast tour w/ Transient. those tracks are now finished. 3 slabs of blackened sludgrindeathrash ready for consumption/regurgitation.let us know if you're interested in giving these songs a good home. they deserve more than a white CDR and xeroxed collage art.

these tracks are very special to us, because these mark not only the culmination of a writing/playing cycle, but they are the last recordings we did with Lee. it's amazing to me that the last time i saw Lee was at a recording session, doing what he loved to do the most, what he devoted his energy towards, but never at the cost of alienating those closest to him. at times i can't believe its been a year, but at the same time it feels like that mark is taking forever to be crossed off the calender. Though we of course miss him every single day, and wish against wish that he was still here with us, we've done everything we can to honor and respect everything he's done, and we will continue to do so, by working as hard as possible to be the best band we can be. It's been rough, but we're very fortunate to have each other, as well as the growing few (?) of you who throw those bits of support our way. all the bands, all the bookers, all the friends who've stood behind us during the trying times, helping us out with releases and shows and doing everything you can to get the word out... it means the world to us. thanks.

- whew. okay... so recordings are underway for the material that will make up the one sided 12" release on PRISON TATT RECORDS. much of the drums are done, and more will be done in the next few weeks, followed by the rest. in addition to the five songs mentioned in the last checklist, we have 3 more new ones, possibly four. here's the breakdown;

1. GASH LADDER - one minute thirty seconds of grind with some noise-rock drum parts. lyrics are personal, bitter, and cryptic. don't really feel like divulging further.

2. ROPE BONDAGE WITH AN I.V. - mangy sludge with some sputtering thrash. lyrics inspired by Trevor Brown, Pain Teens, Octave Mirbeau's the Torture Garden, and Sasha Grey.

3. GREASED WITH TEARS - monolithic mid-tempo hate-metal. lyrics inspired by Joel Peter Witkin, the Yorkshire Ripper, and late 80s Apocalypse Culture. originally titled "BABY TEAR LUBRICANT", but changed pretty rapidly... cause sometimes you have to be human.

4. MARROW BALLAST - very early stages. has more of a Jesus Lizard rape-rock vibe so far, but we'll see where it goes. lyrics inspired by prurient voyeurism, misanthropy as a reflex, the "Dead Baby Boy" scene from Man Bites Dog, and the scene in Bad Dreams where two mental patients are pushed through a giant fan and their blood spurts out from the air ducts.

- show @ the Charleston this Saturday. show at the Acheron April 29 (we flew into nor-man-dee! *a million cool points for anyone who gets that*) . show May 21st @ Shea Stadium w/ THE KILL, NOISEAR, COPREMESIS , and DOUBLED OVER.

New Song Checklist

so we've been crankin' out the new materials like we're watching Sasha Grey and Belladonna in Imax Digital 3D. as of now, we have something like 6 new songs. it's in keeping with all our influences; violently fast black metal, churning sludge, thrashy crossover, power noise, and other adjectives and genres that don't mean anything cause you'll just call it grindcore anyway. that's what grind always was, though; the bastard mutant dog baby of underground music, but i digress.

songs all have titles/lyrics. i think maybe beside us like 3 people know/care about titles, and less care about lyrics... but indulge my art damage for a bit, eh?

1. MARBLE HUSK - Played this at the Misanthropic Noise show last month. brain damaged dissonant blackened metallic hardcore. lyrics are loosely based on Rudolf Schwarzkogler and the other Vienna Aktionists. (http://vienna-actionists.webs.com/).

2. MANACLES - Goatwhore and Eyehategod having a tug of war while Scott Walker provides stenography. lyrics are about not being able to sleep.

3. STIRRUPS - Deathspell Omega/Portal dissonance with sprinklings of grind to remind us that we'll never be as impressively avant garde as some other well liked groups out there. these were the first lyrics i wrote after Lee passed away, so this is pretty much all the thoughts i had during that first week. not sappy and only a little bitter.hopefully he approves. you can if you want, but it doesn't matter.

4. RABID BATS - Black Sabscess bookending a bugfucked noise center. lyrics were influenced by the art of Maruo Suehiro (http://acidskull.com/maruo-suehiros-ero-guro), the ero-guro writings of Edogawa Rampo (http://www.amazon.com/Edogawa-Rampo-Reader/dp/4902075253), and my own carnal frustrations. try to look surprised.

5. METRONOME ULCER - brutal mid-late 80s NYHC turning into a speed metal enema tornado. lyrics were influenced by the book The Shoemaker (http://www.amazon.com/Shoemaker-Psychotic-Flora-Rheta-Schreiber/dp/0671226525) and being bored at work while the computers were down. there's some more Rampo inspired imagery here, along with some bondage porn. all blow and no show. n'yeah.

6. ATROCITY CONDUIT - Mid-tempo almost all the way through (huwahhhhhhh?). moody and menacing in the vein of Neuroisis and industrial metal groups from the late 80s-mid 90s (Skin Chamber, early Godflesh). lyrics were a combination of 2 songs i wrote during the same block of time as "ULTRASOUND", so the events of that week colored it no question. not directly, mind you, just more sardonic goth kid musings.

also, we may actually do a KISS cover for a tribute on Land 'O Smiles. if that happens, it's going to be messy, static smothered sludge drenched tard-creaming rendition of "Unholy", a heavier track from the no-makeup period of the group. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfmrX_WlM2w). sort of what AxCx did to Manowar's "Gloves of Metal". and yes... i intend to make all them manscary faces.

we also hope to find a bassist sooner than later. feel free to inquire.

Atypical reticence that leaves me to wonder what I ever wanted from them. Botfly tumblers up from alkaline wilderness. Fallout shadows flirting with lover flesh. Stared at but hidden like a concert hall crematorium. A crane left in a gelatinous skeletal state, distended belly in a lake of entrails, arsenic like sea-salt caking the doors of a river bottom pick-up. A doll head plucked off a wallpaper of ball gags. Check our hemoglobin for Aboriginal art. Caterpillars in bullet-cocoons that only mature through exit wounds, their flight patterns leaving a trace. Now painted in the smolder of a burning widow, Cloud-pointers damn pedophilia with their backs to the machete capes. The controlled wrath of cafeteria-pleasantries fooled you into a toll-free dream scape, orifice the one thought-barrier left to breach.

POSTCARDS FROM SOLITARY: Hope those hands rest well on the shoulders my waters once softened to clouds of skin. I'm paying cause now the moisture is corroding both of us from within. Dumbed down to patterns, excused to conspiracies, but reality is so much more simple; there are no rhymes. Nothing really bothers us, but we're told that is why we end when really we don't know one calamity from the next. Sub-alchemy from nil-chaoticians who can't see that tombs have passed them by. Hope those vultures stay perched on the shoulders your fingers once kneaded like clay, cause ever since the circles have been declared off limits they've been itching for their scavenger days. And they will come... boundaries mean less to them than the expurgating seeds that spill to the floor while forms of you trace along instigating memories. MAUSOLEUM LOTHARIO: quarantine applications went out today. bedsore portholes dimpled in the wind, scaring up a junkyard substitute for an unknown soldier’s tomb. we floss with veins since our bones went in backwards. calendar pages free falling like irradiated limbs. footsteps ring out like crackling chicken fat caught on an arm’s length of barb. every few years they say it’s their howl, obfuscating composition with message... embalming fluid with tetrotodoxin. AC/DC resurrections bringing us back kettle yelling mushroom gray.

DIVORCE MEDITATION: Confrontation via retreat. Rain ghosts along the graveled ribs. our flesh hung like crushed velvet off a battered starlet’s shoulders. the mocking cackles were as rich and right as an insubordinate’s tased nape. Grease paint leprosy impregnates the bubbled horizon, elongating the lip that will kill me. Cornered mid-vertigo by your disapearers, fingerprints desecrating their vernacular. I can’t deny the vacancy, only camouflage the epilepsy generation organs instigate.

THE MASOCHISTIAN: Reborn with flies on my face. Woman to the whimpers of the unreformed paroled. Mind webbed in the ribs of a neck-securring halo. Waxing Negative; The Communion LIVE on My Castle of Quiet, 10.8.10

In terms of "heavy music," "black metal," "dark hardcore," or whatever labels one needs to put upon things to feel at ease, The Communion are indeed a very special find. I might never have seen them, had I not wandered into the Party Expo this past July, right around the corner from my former domicile in now-so-fashionable Bushwick.

No-faking, gut-churning angst, great songwriting, and an obvious interest in creating something of quality and sincerity are what set The Communion apart from the horde of bands that lean toward the darker sides of self expression. Dramatic, hooky sludge-metal, classic hardcore/thrash, and hi-speed black metal are all easily referenced in The Communion's repertoire, these styles employed naturally and with the apparent ease of just doing what they do, without sounding at all forced or postmodern.

These are some great tracks—catchy, headbanging and deftly constructed. I've been spinning them constantly for the last week and a half, and suggest you do the same.

thanks again to everyone who made these tribute shows such a success. we raised a good amount of cash for the St. Jude Children's hospital, and all the bands really brought their A-Games. You you should all be proud of yourselves, because we are. We can't even begin to tell you how much this has meant to us. Keep up the tunes, all of you.

Now that we've made it through the wilderness of memorial, we feel that we should get on with the violent grindcore. Lee wouldn't want a bunch of sap clogging our engines, he'd want us to spew out the most fucked up chaos our tar-drenched souls could muster, and that's what we're going to do. watch your slice, Gludious Minimus. here comes the noise.

split releases w/ Transient and Taste of Fear/Agathocles, are inching towards you. the material we recorded in April w/ Lee is being put on the backburner because Tony Biscuits is going on tour in Japan w/ Sheer Terror, so when he gets back we'll throw down the bass and electrical wounds and have that out for you. in the meantime we're gonna finish up "Marble Husk", "Manacles", and any other new songs we come up with.

Lee Altomare: 1976 - 2010

Yesterday morning, Lee passed away due to complications from eye surgery.

We are all deeply wounded, white and shaking with shock, by this sudden loss of our great friend. He brought us all together. He brought out the best in us, enabled and encouraged us to be at our absolute best in music and life. I personally cannot imagine being where i am today without all Lee put together.

I say all this with zero hyperbole, and those who knew him best no doubt feel the same way we do at this moment. Our hearts go out to his amazing family and all his friends, as well as anyone whose supported us in the last 6 years. Know that Lee loved, appreciated, and cared about all of you very much, as do we.

We'll miss you forever.

this is a song i wrote about the subject of "bug chasers". for those who don't know; Bug Chasers are homosexual men who seek out HIV Infected partners (called "gift givers") in hopes of infecting themselves with the virus. It is not a political song. It does not condone or condemn such activities. it is not homophobic, or judgmental in any other way. it is about individuals who are on the fringe of society wanting to be part of something so desperately that the idea of a slow painful death seems like the only way they can achieve any sort of comradery. It is about people whose illness is coveted, and the empowerment they feel in the light of someone actually wanting what many have told them is a curse brought upon by there lifestyle and/or their nature. it's merely a subject that got me typing, and this is what came out of it;

Intravenous siphon. Convinced that martyring fashions will align them with Stalag angels, as if they volunteered holocaustic accessions. “Talk is all I want”. Waking thoughts of stalking bugs. Converted complacency to future shocks painting current screams. Gift baskets of walled-in cockroach legs and abdomens. The black market equivalent of trial / error / acceptance. Gunned down immune network. Antimicrobial resin tongued suggestively before being cupped by shallow ends. Lunged out of passivity once presents come of disease. Oxygen-entombed are no longer sidling. jaunt ended a little over 24 hours ago. it was all kinds of a blast. big thanks to the characters in TRANSIENT for blowing our minds night in and night out with some razor-wire high knife grind that's tighter than a child's anus pre last Thursday. They were also about the nicest bunch of people we've ever met.

Thanks to all the cool bands/promoters who complimented us/set us up with food and lodging/just all around kicked ass; the Corpse Fortress, LOST AGAIN, DIABLERO (maybe the best discovery of the whole tour for me), Kat and SALOME, everyone from Philly, the people who came out in Boston, Jeremy from LECHEROUS NOCTURNE, and of course ourselves.

the rest of the summer is a bit light for us in the show department. July 11 and August 22 we'll be a Rockstar Bar with a lot of real awesome bands. mostly though we'll be writing and recording our first stuff with Joeside in Vein on drums. should be some solid tunage.

- this weekend Gary Graveyard came down and we wound up recording two of our most extreme tracks yet. i don't say "extreme" in the Jolt Cola Jason Statham double feature sense of the word, more in the sense that the two songs we did sort of represent the extreme ends of our musical spectrum.

the first track we recorded on Saturday night, entitled "MOBILE OF SYRINGES", is a roughly 20 minute harsh noise track we made up on the spot. First Lee and Jimmy recorded the sounds, which are about as bowel eroding as anything i've ever heard come out of those amps. As they were doing that, i collected 4 songs i had in my my lyric book and arranged them as best i could in accordance with what they were doing. When it was my turn, I was plugged into a big distortion peddle, which i played around with during the duration of my recording. It took a lot out of me... i used voices i didn't even know i had... and i felt a little like Peter Greene in Clean, Shaven afterwards... but it was worth it, cause the track sounds pretty awesome, and we finally got around to really exploring the noise side of things, which is something we've always hinted at, but now have fully embraced. lyrics are on the Myspace.

the second track is a complete 180 from "MOBILE OF SYRINGES"; a 20 second grindcore song entitled "CRIB DEATH FOGHORN". Gary actually used his drum machine for this one, and it sounds pretty damn good.

these two tracks (along w/ JESTER AXIS and CULT MACHINE) will be appearing on the CDR split w/ TASTE OF FEAR.

Those who know us know the admiration we have for Deathcycle, both for their music/what it represents and who they are as individuals. Each one of the band members has a signature style that when brought together, creates something much greater than the sum of its parts. They are about as intense and pure a band as you'll ever find, but you have to look long and hard for them, especially nowadays, when you can't even muster up enough indifference to shrug your shoulders at the innocuous banality that has become of underground metal and hardcore. Deathcycle has all the passion of the most honest protest music, and the all urgency of a motorized headbutt to your very soul. we'll miss them very much.

This is it, ladies and gentlemen....the day and evening's entertainment.

We'll be playing 2 shows this coming Saturday, May the 17th. We'll be returning to ABC NO RIO in Manhattan @ 3pm, then crossing the bridge to Williamsburg to play the ROCKSTAR BAR. both shows feature COFFINS and THE ENDLESS BLOCKADE. the ABC show will also feature ASRA and the Rockstar show will feature motherfucking DEATHCYCLE.

This is the first time we've attempted to do 2 shows in one day. it's also the first show(s) we'll be doing with our most solid, most drama-free line up ever. I'd be lying if i said there wasn't a touch of nervousness in me...after all, this is the longest we've gone without playing a show (the last show was early September of 2007), but it should be pretty awesome regardless. we've been practicing regularly since January, and we've even got quite a few new songs show-ready, which we're psyched about. we've also got some other cool stuff in store, so please don't miss out. i don't wanna jinx it, but this may be the best line-up for live shows that we've ever had...just a feeling.

- to clear the air about my last post, for those of you who are ready to rape my soul over what some construed as an attack on Flotopsy;

the new Cryptopsy fucking sucks ass. the sucking of ass that the new Cryptopsy performs proves the point of my view of its ass-sucking more than any illustration ever could...but if i could do an illustration of how bad the new Cryptopsy is...it would be a bunch of man-cherubs with hair like Rainbow Brite, clad in pink togas, farting sparkles, and felating 24 inch Liberache-shaped double-headed dildos..all the while i listen to "Slit Your Guts" and "Open Face Surgery" and cry in tribute of what was once an awesome band.

i wasn't attacking Flo. his drumming is awesome. it's the REST OF THE BAND that's weak now. perhaps that could have been more clear...but whatever. Drumming Sacred Cow or not, i cannot in all good consciousness defend or excuse this miserable excuse of a record. and if you heard it, you'd say the same thing. the riffs are more stiff than Bea Arthur in a room full of hard-ons...the vocals sound like ass running over ass with ass....the whole thing is so embarrassing and hideous that it makes Cold Lake and St. Anger seem like the next logical step in brutality. it's BAD.

don't think it's easy for me to say this; Blasphemy Made Flesh and None So Vile are two of my favorite albums ever. i even think Once was Not and Whisper Supremacy are solid releases. this new shit though is worthless. complete mall-going retardation for white-trash goth-lites.

- good GOD it's terrible. I know a lot of people weren't fond of Once Was Not (i liked it), but you'd have to be a loose-brained palm-crease to think this is a step in the right direction. If i didn't know any better i'd swear Flo was drumming for the new KITTE LP. this is up there with DEP's performance on Conan O'Brian in terms of the worst-shit-i've-heard-this-year-so-far file.

- on the good news front; the Communion had its first practice w/ a full band since Ju-fuck-ly. we jammed with a drummer named Scott, who seemed really enthused and into the whole whatever-the-fuck. His drumming style is very cool and raw, like all the best ugly thrash/death the underground used to offer. Fits us like a lady-bic enema. this was also the first time we jammed with our new bassist Jimmy. his bass tone is pretty bad-ass, super-heavy and solid. i don't wanna jinx it, but this could work out nicely.

- the Communion is also doing a project with Richard Johnson (formerly of Enemy Soil, currently of Drugs of Faith) simply titled "The Communion featuring Richard Johnson". Richard has been sending us tracks he's written on a drum machine, to which we will add guitars, bass, noise, and vocals. this will pretty much be a total grind project. influences/reference points include;

Looking for an Answer, Cripple Bastards, Pig Destroyer, Antigama, Drugs of Faith, Sayyadina, Psycho, pre-Relapse Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Dead Infection, and a bunch of other stuff that message board faggots will say we sound nothing like.

Hi, I’m Sean McGrath, and I’m in the death metal band Impaled. We’ve been asked to do a “blog” by Decibel, and though I usually shy away from such things, or more accurately back away from them while forming the sign of the cross with my fingers, I thought it might be a good chance to lay bare a few well kept secrets about the music industry to those young and impressionable musicians who might have been fooled into thinking that signing a contract with a major label is a great honor and privilege.

In this day and age, record labels can do very little for you that you cannot do yourself with some hard work, talent, and ingenuity. Let’s assume that you already have talent. That cuts out seventy five percent of you. You can leave. The rest of you, please read on. This is the standard operating procedure for most labels:

Let’s pretend there’s a young death metal band. Let’s call this band… I don’t know…Injected Feces. That’s pretty good. (It’s copyrighted, so don’t get any ideas.) So Injected Feces has been around for a year or so, played some good shows, garnered some good reviews, done a decent demo, and gets a little interest from some labels. “Awesome!” thinks Injected Feces, “We’re going to MAKE IT!”. They pick the biggest and best label and sign the contract without having a pro look at it. Who needs lawyers? That’s not metal! And hey, the label is offering them $1,500! That’s four times what the demo cost! Sounds pretty good so far. Injected Feces goes into the studio and they just squeak by on the 1,500 bucks, but the finished product comes out great (as great as it can coming from Injected Feces). The promotion department tells the band this is the best thing they’ve heard since Colostomy Catheter (also copyrighted), and they’re sure to sell 40,000 copies. Wow!

Cut to a year later. Injected Feces has taken three months out of their lives to tour the country to promote the album. They had to buy the cds from the label at 6 bucks a pop, but it was worth it. Man, did they sell! At the same time, jobs have been lost. Relationships have been strained or ruined. But the band is doing great! They sold thousands of cds! They must be in the chips, right? I mean, they were mentioned in Decibel and Metal Maniacs! All the same, they wonder why they haven’t gotten a financial statement from the label. Ever.

They ask the label to provide a statement and after and few months of cajoling they finally get one. Holy moly, they sold 6,000 CDs! There is much rejoicing. But wait, what’s this? The label keeps 9 dollars of every cd sold and gives the band 65 cents per cd sold? Well, ok. I mean, they DID put all those ads in those glossy magazines… and that’s still almost 6,000 bucks! Hold on… They also charged for the cost of the ads out of the band’s royalties? And they pro rated the phone bill and internet bill and rent and took that from the band’s royalties? And they own the rights to the t-shirt designs?! And on top of that, they’ve been trading Injected Feces CDs for other CDs made by bands from other labels, and not reporting those traded CDs as sales?

Hmmm…

What a disappointment. Injected Feces only sold 6,000 copies. Sounds like a lot to the band, but it’s well below the 40,000 estimated. I guess they should be dropped from the label. Not profitable enough. After an initial investment of 1,500 dollars, they only raked in 54,000 dollars for the label. The good thing is, the label owns Injected Feces’ entire catalog. They signed it away! The material will never see the light of day again if the label does not will it.

Now let’s look at the other option.

Injected Feces has a bit of a following. They put out a demo. They do as many interviews in fanzines as they can. They try to get on shows with every touring band they can and make connections with the members and the promoters. They hook up with some out of state bands, do some split releases, talk their way onto some compilation CDs and into some bigger magazines, do a few DIY tours, have a decent website that offers free downloads of their music and interesting artwork. Injected Feces now has a name. They scrape together three thousand dollars, record a CD, and press it themselves. They sell 1,000 CDs on a DIY tour at 10 dollars a pop. 10,000 dollars goes to paying for gas, strings, a new tire to replace the one that blew out, a new guitar to replace the one that broke when that dude moshed into it, your drummer’s rent when he’s short, flyers, beer, a new banner, and not one fucking cent goes to some weasely prick in an office telling them how awesome they are.

Option number two is the future of underground metal.

- just found out Comity broke up. this is a bummer. for those who don't know...Comity were a remarkable French band. in short; Comity is the band that the Red Chord, Between the Buried and Me, From a Second Story Window, and the countless other "hybrid" bands wishes they could be. The Deus Ex Machina as a Forgotten Genius is one of the headiest, heaviest, most frightening albums i've had the pleasure of hearing. It's Gorguts + Red Harvest + Neurosis. haven't picked up the newest one, but i'll certainly be on the hunt. R.I.P.

- we've had to cancel our appearance this Sunday upstate. we're deeply sorry for this, as those of us who are close enough to really know us know that we absolutely hate canceling shows, and we do everything in our power to keep it together and play every show we have booked. but we have a good reason; no rhythm section.

- both our drummer Jason and our bassist Dave decided to quit the Communion. this has been building since the weekend tour this past May, and it finally came to a head this week. i won't get into the details because they are relevant only to us, so i'll just say that i'm bummed things couldn't work out. i said on more than one occasion that this line-up was our strongest...when we were all on the top of our game. the shows this summer were not us at the top of our game. with minimal exceptions, the shows were not played well, due to scheduling conflicts and lack of communication mostly.

- there's still Lee, Billy, myself, and Matt. we all like each other, we all still have some ideas and intentions, so we're keeping this thing going. the search for a new drummer and a new bassist begins. This won't stop us. no more set backs. we're blowing through these times like a destitute Rebecca Lord blowing through creepy French guys; like our lives depend on it.

- recently burning-my-ass; the new Red Chord. don't listen to these PR Regurgitating Magazine "Writers"...this is a weak, lazy, and DULL album. talk about having it than losing it. the Red Chord is now officially the Weezer of Deathgrindmoshwhatever stuff; one decent record followed by a mediocre but passable second album that in turn is followed by a collection of phone-ins. get the new Antigama or the last (as well as the upcoming) Comity album if you want that style of music done with some real intensity that doesn't fall back on bonehead mosh parts or teetering-on-hipster ironic "dark" humor that was interesting/fresh 12 years ago when Deadguy put out Fixation on a Co-Worker, but is now watered down to the point that it is the musical equivalent of a Manhattan Rickshaw Driver with a "Free Hugs" sign hanging around his neck. fuck this band and anyone who looks like this band.

- so around September or so we're probably going to retreat into our Fortress of Semi-Solitude and work on new stuff and (possibly) begin preparing our first full-length for Period Face Productions entitled Kanalbrigade. we feel it's about time for a full-length non-CDR release, especially since this is the strongest material and best line-up we've ever had. I may try to come up with some kind of prose/story for the inlay, but i can't promise anything.

Great atmosphere, excellent backline, two excellent bars, great soundpeople/staff...we can't wait to play there again. - it's very possible that we might be playing a *gasp* Long Island gig in the very near future. so near the future that it's the present. it's happening right now. NOW. seriously though, we'll get back to you on that one.

- looks like we will take some time off from shows after our August 27 gig. some of us have school, some of us going on little trips, others of us trying to get paid for something so we can dump money into cds and band stuff.

we've always made the most of our "time off" and this should be no exception. we're not Metallica, taking 2 1/2 year breaks from each other entirely, than taking another 3 years to write a record. we don't take those kind of breaks..no band should. take breaks from shows maybe, since that can wear you down...playing the same material over and over again, but from the whole thing entirely? never. we'd go mad from the boredom. we'd itch like crazy...and crazy itches A LOT.

this is nothing new for us, as September/October seems to be the time of year where most bands, not just us, take a breather from a heavy summer-show routine...time taken to recharge the batteries, incorporate a season's worth of broken hearts and learning experiences into their sound. ultimately, those are the moments that make a band's material stronger...i feel, anyway. i always find that my favorite part of being in a band is the writing process itself. throwing silly putty at flashcards and seeing what gets hit.

you always get that itch, though...the live-itch. usually it pronounces itself after you've gone to your first show in a while. you see a band you love and that inspires you to get up there and follow their lead. you see a band you hate and say to yourself "fuck, i'm better than this clown shoes" and you get up there is reduce them to a fecal-scented smolder. so we can't predict the future...but we'll certainly be around to see it.

i've still got plenty of shit-demons to funnel out of my soul with syringe-enemas. i can honestly say that i think we all do.

- pick up the new albums from Sutcliffe Jugend and Deathspell Omega.

- best thing about yesterday's show;

Darkside plays their set. it's late...like close to 3 in the morning. they're destroying. the mic goes out and they take some time to fix it. this very Poindexter looking guy from Subzero (thick glasses, colored shirt, basically Buddy Holly with a New Yawk accent) starts to complain (Subzero is playing last). as he's walking away, muttering under his breath, someone...maybe one of the guys from Darkside...maybe just one of the crowd...screams "NERRRRRRRD!"

we couldn't contain ourselves. it was just perfect timing. it made an otherwise debasing, humbling trip worth the while. for those who caught the performance...sorry. it was a long-ass day, long ass drive, early start, long wait, and we weren't at our best. i know it's no excuse, because we really are better than what you saw yesterday, but hopefully you won't be soured on us. we really do care.

thanks anyway to those who put on the show, supplied us w/ equipment, let us eat some food, and compensated us well. we wish we could've been better, but i guess that's how it rolls sometimes. don't give up on us yet...we're not...knock on wood.
